Direct reaction contributions are not 6320 1451 31 included. 6320 1451 32 6320 1451 33 Exit particles considered are neutrons, protons, alpha particles, 6320 1451 34 and deuterons. Transmission coefficients for neutrons and protons 6320 1451 35 were obtained from an optical potential for rare earth elements 6320 1451 36 developed by F. Dietrich and using the ECIS code. The 6320 1451 37 transmission coefficients for alpha particles were obtained from 6320 1451 38 the optical potential of Avrigeanu, et.al. Those for deuterons 6320 1451 39 are from the optical potential of Lohr and Haeberli. Alpha and 6320 1451 40 deuteron transmission coefficients were calculated using the 6320 1451 41 SCAT2 routine. An enhanced generalized Lorentzian is assumed for 6320 1451 42 the E1 photon strength function, and is normalized to measured or 6320 1451 43 systematic values of the average total s-wave radiation width at 6320 1451 44 the neutron binding energy. 6320 1451 45 6320 1451 46 Backshifted Fermi gas level density parameters are derived from 6320 1451 47 measured s-wave resonance spacings where available. For other 6320 1451 48 nuclei, systematic values are adopted. At low energies a constant 6320 1451 49 temperature form is adopted, and the two formulae are matched at 6320 1451 50 an energy between the backshift and the neutron binding energy so 6320 1451 51 as to give the best possible fit to known spectroscopic levels. 6320 1451 52 6320 1451 53 Discrete levels are taken from the Reference Input Parameter 6320 1451 54 Library (RIPL) with additional evaluations performed by R.
