Completed was an accretion to the extensive architectural and engineering plans of Navy facilities created and collected by the central office of the Bureau of Yards and Docks. This accretion completes a multiyear processing project. These records include plans, drawings, blueprints and tracings of U.S. Navy shore facilities and equipment in the United States and abroad, 1820 - 1966. The wide variety of subjects represented in the records include watercolor drawings of the Naval Hospital and Observatory in Washington, DC, and the Naval Asylum in Philadelphia by the well-known architect William Strickland, plans for naval facilities at Pensacola, FL, from the 1830s and 1840s and extensive World War II - era plans for facilities in the United States and the Pacific region. Received as a continuing accretion from the CIA Motion Picture Library were over 1,000 motion picture films produced or acquired by the CIA from 1950 to 1975. The films cover many subjects related to intelligence-gathering, crime prevention, surveillance, and espionage trade craft. Topics include: politics, foreign relations, and history of many countries including China, Vietnam, North Korea, and the Soviet Union; coverage of significant historical events; Vietnam War - related issues; and films on the culture, lifestyles, and geography of numerous foreign countries, as well as propaganda and informational film productions in various languages obtained from Russia, North Vietnam, and East German sources. These 2,100 maps and plans were created by or submitted to the National Capital Planning Commission for the purposes of development and approval of construction projects in the District of Columbia and surrounding suburbs in Maryland and Virginia, 1960 - 87. The records consist of photoprocessed, blueprint, and printed maps and site plans, aerial photographic prints, sketches, and views, many of which are in color to highlight additional information. Included are general maps of the District and surrounding areas, as well as plans and proposals for Federal and municipal public buildings and grounds, parks, streets, highway systems, parking facilities, bridges, military posts, and monuments. Many of the materials were created directly by the Commission, while others were submitted by outside sources. Materials open and processed. Accession NN3-328-01-002.
