DISTRIBUTOR OF CHILD PORN SENTENCED TO OVER 5 YEARS

Baltimore, Maryland - Daniel Provencal, age 33, of Greensboro, Maryland was sentenced today to 63 months in prison followed by 10 years of supervised release for distribution of child pornography, announced United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod J. Rosenstein.

According to the statement of facts presented to the court on October 13, 2006 at his guilty plea, Provencal sent e-mails from August 5 to November 21, 2005 to an undercover FBI agent with video files attached containing video segments that depicted an adult male performing oral sex on a prepubescent female, an adult male having sexual intercourse with a minor child, and various minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct. FBI agents confirmed that Provencal used the screen names contained in the emails and in January of 2006, searched his residence, seizing his personal computer. Provencal admitted that he had distributed sexually explicit images and videos of child pornography over the internet, including pornographic images of people as young as newborns. Provencal’s computer contained at least 150 images of children engaging in sexually explicit activity with adults and/or children.

United States Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein thanked the Federal Bureau of Investigation for their investigative work, and commended Assistant United States Attorney Chris Gramiccioni, who prosecuted the case.
