"POWERing Nepal - Connecting Markets" Hydropower Seminar 2006

US Embassy-Kathmandu, USAID Nepal, AMCHAM/India, and the Nepal-USA Chamber of Commerce and Industry jointly organized "EmPOWERing Nepal - Connecting Markets," a hydropower seminar at the Radisson Hotel in Kathmandu, on November 2-3, 2006. The seminar brought together U.S. companies and other foreign investors with key individuals from relevant government agencies from Nepal and India to highlight substantial opportunities to invest in Nepal's hydropower sector. Nepal's immense hydropower potential and constantly increasing power demand in India are perfect reasons to explore such opportunities.

Government officials from Nepal and India highlighted the regulatory changes that make foreign investment in Nepal's hydropower sector an attractive opportunity. The licensing agency of Nepal, Department of Electricity Development, and the state-owned power developer of Nepal, Nepal Electricity Authority, showcased a number of potential projects available for development through foreign investment. A session on a new transmission line study focused on the importance of connectivity issues between India and Nepal in light of meeting increased energy supply and demand needs in both countries.

We look forward to your queries and active interest in the hydropower development of Nepal through investment, transfer of technology and equipment sales.
