U.S. Compact Grants to FSM in October 2008

For the first month of the current fiscal year, the FSM Department of Finance received Compact-funded grants from the United States Government totaling $ 7,536,291. These payments were for Compact sector grants for Education, Health, Environment, and Private Sector Development plus Disaster Assistance, Supplemental Education and Infrastructure Grants for October of Fiscal Year 2009. The breakdown of these grants follows:

Sector Grants for the Federated States of Micronesia's National Government

Education Sector (FSM Department of Education) $100,000
Education Sector (College of Micronesia-FSM) $950,000
Health Sector (FSM Department of Health and Social Affairs) $130,000
Disaster Assistance Emergency Fund $228,138
Total Payment for FSM National Government: $1,408,138

Sector Grants for Chuuk State

Health (Chuuk MDR TB Outbreak) $325,000
Infrastructure (Chuuk Airport AIP) $97,084
Supplemental Education Grant (2007) $0
Total Payment for Chuuk: $422,084

Sector Grants for Kosrae State

Education Sector $435,000
Health Sector $405,000
Private Sector Development $70,000
Infrastructure (Kosrae Airport AIP) $179,628
Total Payment for Kosrae: $1,089,628

Sector Grants for Pohnpei State

Education Sector $1,275,000
Health Sector $1,025,000

These payments are made on a monthly basis, based upon requests submitted by the FSM Government on behalf of the national government, the four state governments and the College of Micronesia-FSM. The U.S. Department of the Interior, Office of Insular Affairs administers these funds for the United States Government.
