#280Introduction to Statistical Issues and Procedures Using SUDAAN

Description:
SUDAAN is a statistical program specifically designed to analyze complex survey designs that utilize samples that may be multi-staged, stratified, unequally weighted and/or clustered. This class will review statistical issues involved with using complex survey data and then offer in-class demonstrations of several SUDAAN procedures. The last part of the class will give participants the opportunity try out the software through an in-class exercise and to consult with the instructors regarding the participants' own research projects.

Objectives:
Topics to be covered include
  • Weighting
  • Stratification
  • Clustering
  • Variance Estimation Techniques
  • Risk Ratios
  • Comparing SAS and SUDAAN on survey analysis
  • SUDAAN procedures:
    • Proc Crosstab (crosstabulation tables; chi-square tests; Cochran-Mantel-Haenszel test)
    • Proc Rlogist (logistic regression)
    • Proc Descript (means/t tests)
    • Combining across several cross-sectional surveys to: 1) Obtain a larger sample; 2) Perform trend analyses

Who should attend:
NIH staff with an interest in the topic that have a basic understanding of statistics. Previous experience with SAS is desirable but not necessary.
