Wired Private Study Carrels
The NIH Library offers wired access to the campus network for authorized users. Users with properly configured laptops can use network data ports located in 25 private, lockable study carrels on the lower level. Each carrel is equipped with a small desk, chair, corkboard, network data port with attached ethernet cable, and instructions on configuring a laptop to use the data port. Five carrels are available on a first-come first-served basis each day. Twenty carrels are available for checkout for up to four weeks. One wheelchair accessible carrel is also available upon request.

Wireless Facility
The NIH Library offers wireless access to the campus network for authorized users. Both floors of the Library have connectivity, depending on the location of the user. Signs around the Library and handouts will indicate where the best signals are achieved. Working next to metal shelving and in the corners of a room decreases the strength of the signal. Users with wireless-ready laptops and the appropriate network interface card will be able to communicate on the network within the coverage area. The NIH Library's wireless network is brought to you by the Center for Information Technology (CIT). Any problems you may experience with setup or connectivity can be handled by contacting the NIH Help Desk at 301-496-4357 or HelpDesk@nih.gov

Note: To gain access to the wireless network, you will need to obtain the appropriate NIH SSID and WEP key information from your local IT support or the NIH Help Desk. You can obtain more information on NIH wireless at http://wireless.nih.gov

If you wish to use your own laptop immediately in the NIH Library, a Systems Office staff member may be able to assist you M-F 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM with configuring the wireless setup on your laptop. We strongly encourage users to contact their local IT support and CIT for configuration and setup.

The loss or corruption of files is not the responsibility of the NIH Library. Save your work often.
