From: Bernadette Serenari [serenari@earthlink.net] Sent: Thursday, December 28, 2000 11:16 AM To: FDADockets@oc.fda.gov Subject: 98P-0151/CP1 I was absolutely appalled to know that not only does or government support cruel and unusual punishment in research labs, but now in the food industry. It is bad enough these animals are sacrificed to feed America's already fat bellies, but to see that the downed-animal legislation is well underway makes me see how insensitive and profit-minded America really is. I can't belive that downed animals are still permitted to go to slaughter. Tell me, how are they being loaded? I think I already know the answer. I know that the filth that they lie in or illness that may be crippling them will go "unnoticed" and could get passed on to consumers. Are you people going to finally get the idea and change slaughter regulation and ENFORCE them from top to bottom. Yeah, it is going to take some dollars but government should finally start putting money into the right causes and not the wrong pockets!!
