Hemophilia and childbirth
Question: If a female carries hemophilia and has a fragile X will she
contract hemophilia? How long can a female live with Hemophilia? What
about childbirth?
Jenny L Giambalvo
Answer: A carrier of hemophilia should not be affected any differently
because of fragile X. She can live as long as a male with hemophilia,
which means that she can live a pretty full life as long as she gets
constant care. That care involves injections with the clotting factor
that she lacks. Childbirth would be a problem, and I'm not sure how
to respond. I'll check with a couple of friends of mine, though, and
try to get back to you.
