Annotation: This booklet is intended as a resource for survivors of homicide, to help address their myriad questions and concerns in the aftermath of the murder of a relative or friend.
Abstract: While much of the booklet is geared toward the law in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, many sections are applicable to locations across the country. The booklet discusses rights and services available to crime victims, victim and witness advocates, compensation to homicide survivors, and access to various forms of information. The chapters cover legal procedures while the case is pending, legal proceedings and players in the criminal justice system, the trial in State superior court, the verdict and sentencing, the post-conviction phase, parole, pre-release, and time deductions from the sentence. The manual describes telephone support networks for homicide survivors and victim assistance programs and resources. 6 references
