For shot boundary detection, the IBM results were based on the IBM CueVideo system. For high-level feature detection, we submitted ten runs based on a set of uni-modal and multi-modal runs using statistical modeling techniques such as support vector machines, multi-layer perceptrons, ensemble fusion, validity weighted model vectors, multi-nets, discriminant model fusion, and ontology-based fusion. We also created several "best-of" runs by automatically selecting best classifiers from above techniques. For story segmentation, we used an unsupervised audio-visual clustering technique that incorporated a decision-tree classifier on speech transcript. For search, we examined spoken-document retrieval and content-based techniques. The spoken-document retrieval techniques included automatic and phonetic-based approaches. We also examined spoken-document retrieval fusion-techniques over multiple matching functions and methods for re-ranking based on color blobs. We also explored techniques for fully-automatic multiple example content-based retrieval. Lastly, we explored search techniques that fuse content-based and spokent-document retrieval results based on linear weighting. Hi Paul,

Please see summary as follows:

The IBM team participated in all four TRECVID tasks in 2003.

Thanks,

Hi John,

Alan, Wessel, and I were expecting to extract some words from
the papers about the main approaches various groups took to
the tasks they undertook - for use in the overviews. Since we
will not be getting a paper from the IBM team, can we get
something vary brief about the approaches IBM took to each
task - this week?.

Thanks,
Paul
