Voice of America to World: "Ahmadinejad victorious over the United States"

Shortly after the release of the 2007 U.S. National Intelligence Estimate on Iran’s nuclear program, the Voice of America repeated claims made by President Ahmadinejad of Iran that he is victorious over the United States. The report goes on to repeat other claims made by Ahmadinejad including that the U.S. report vindicates the regime’s denial of developing capabilities useful for nuclear weapons.

This taxpayer funded article failed to rebut these claims with informed, U.S. viewpoints or quotes from the National Intelligence Estimate such as the acknowledgement that Iran is currently enriching uranium, a necessary step towards nuclear weaponization.

In October at the United Nations, Voice of America came under fire for failing to use its reports to be the balance to statements made by the regimes of Burma and Iran.

Key facts:
  • The charter of Voice of America (VOA) states “VOA will present the policies of the United States clearly and effectively, and will also present responsible discussions and opinion on these policies.”
  • The U.S. taxpayer provides over $650 million annually for international broadcasting such as the Voice of America.
