California fish species reside in freshwater and coastal/marine waters. Some key resources include:

The California Department of Fish and Game maintains the threatened and endangered fish species list as part of their responsibility under the California Endangered Species Act. Currently, 34 species and subspecies of fish are listed as either threatened or endangered by the State of California or the federal government.

The Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Conservation Biology at the University of California Davis provide static distribution maps on more than 100 native and non-native species across California.

Many images, video clips, and other resources about California coastal fish can be found at the University of California Santa Barbara Milton Love Lab.

The NBII Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Node provides a wide variety of data and other information on freshwater fish species.
