Area of Operations: San Francisco Bay, California, United States, North America, North Pacific

Dates: September 15, 1991 to September 16, 1991

Chief scientist: Uri ten Brink
   W. Steve Holbrook - WHOI

Objectives: Determine 2-dimensional velocity structure across central CA margin near San Francisco and along the Bay from an accretionary prism overlying continental crust to normal oceanic crust. Image the lower crust and moho beneath marginal sedimentary pile invisible in multichannel seismic relection lines. Establish extent of subducted oceanic crust under margin. Search for major faults crossing the Bay and margin. Augment BASIX marine multichannel dataset and land seismic refraction data to determine whether major faults in the Bay Area connect at depth.

Type of Activity: Seismic refraction

Information to be derived: Morphology
