QUICK REFERENCE (Full Metadata link) EARTHQUAKES Earthquakes: Identification Information Originator: National Earthquake Information Center World Data Center Date: 1994 Title: National Earthquake Information Center World Data Center for Seismology, Denver Purpose: unknown Abstract: This data base provides information on earthquakes from 2100 B.C. to the present. The data base contains earthquakes with known magnitude values between 0.1 and 9.9. Earthquakes that have no computed magnitude values are also included in the data base. Users of micro-earthquake data (magnitude less than or equal to 0.0) should contact institutions that operate seismograph networks in their area of interest. In reality, there are very few events with magnitude less than 2.0 in the data base. Access Constraints: none Use Constraints: It is ultimately the user's responsibility to assess the accuracy and completeness of a data-set extracted from the data base and to determine if these are sufficient for the purposes to which the data-set would be applied. Maginfo: The contributed magnitude field; consists of 7 characters: positions 1-2 = magnitude scale; and postions 3-7 = organization source; if blank, the source is the same as the one shown under the catalog source column. Iefm: Information: Dots are used in place of blanks to aid in the distinction between the columns. Broken into Intensity, EFF, FPS, and MO Dtsvnwg: Information: Dots are used in place of blanks to aid in the distinction between the columns. Broken into Diastroph., Tsunami, Seiche, Volcanism, NonTect, Waves, and Misc. Dist: Radial distance: On radius searches, the distance in kilometers between designated input point and earthquake location. The distance value is truncated to the whole kilometer.
