Specifically my right to fly on a great new airline that will offer more flights, lower fares, and a great travel experience. Virgin America plans to fly brand-new planes, staffed by highly motivated employees, with cutting edge in-flight technology to deliver more choices and outstanding customer service to the flying public. Unfortunately, if things in Washington continue on their present path, Virgin America may never get airborne. This airline is good for America. A study by the Campbell Hill Aviation Group found that if Virgin America had been flying last year, it would have saved U.S. consumers more than $786 million dollars - that's an average of $88 on every roundtrip ticket. Virgin America will create 1,000 new U.S. jobs in its first year and up to 5,000 within its first five years of operation. These numbers mean the airline will create more than 50,000 indirect jobs in that same timeframe. I hope the DOT won't allow the best funded new airline in U.S. history to simply slip away. More competition is required as airline fares continue to go up while value and service keep going down. I want real choice and real value, and it would be a tragedy to lose this great new airline, especially when other carriers are talking about merging and becoming large mega-airlines. Consumers deserve more choices, not fewer. So please tell the DOT now, as they consider Virgin America's application and recent reply, that this airline should be approved. Virgin America is American-owned and run. And the wishes of the traveling public should not be denied. The market should decide if the airline succeeds or fails.
