Project Description: Rajiv Joseph's Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo is a lyrical, haunting new play set against the backdrop of the Iraq War. Told from the viewpoint of an old Bengal tiger caged in a bombed-out Baghdad zoo, the production features combatants, citizens, and otherworldly spirits who discuss life, death, and the pursuit of hope, as they roam the streets of Iraq, trying to find what has been lost in the ruins. Bengal Tiger was previously developed at the Lark Play Development Center and the State University of New York at Purchase. Center Theatre Group, a non-profit arts organization, is one of the largest and most active theatrer companies in the nation, programming seasons year-round at the 739-seat Mark Taper Forum and the 1,600 to 2,000-seat Ahmanson Theatre at the Music Center of Los Angeles, and the 317-seat Kirk Douglas Theatre in Culver City.
