Analysis of Genetic Diversity, Phylogenetic Status, Population Dispersal, Reproduction and Cultivation of the Threatened Seagrass, Halophila johnsonii (2002)

Project Description:
NOAA has listed the seagrass Halophila johnsonii as a threatened species, the first and only seagrass on the U.S. Endangered Species List. As part of the species recovery plan NCCOS staff are leading the Recovery Team and participating in ecological research on aspects of long-term management and conservation of the species. Studies include; analysis of genetic diversity, phylogenetic status, population dispersal, reproduction restoration and cultivation.

Expected Outcome:
Based onscientific information and conservation and management recommendations to NOAA Office of Protected Species, St. Petersburg, FL. to implement the Recovery Plan for the species.
