From : FNALD0::ZIEMINSKI Posted : 21-MAY-1997 15:16:44, Expires : 5-JUN-1997 15:16:44 Fermilab, 21-MAY-1997 * DZero Workshop '97, Bloomington, IN, Bulletin 1 * - Please Respond by Saturday, May 24 This is the first informational bulletin about the 1997 DZero Workshop, to be held at the Indiana University in Bloomington, IN. The main purpose of this bulletin is to give an outline of the arrangements of the workshop and to get a first estimate of the number of attendees, and of people interested in specific activities which must be reserved in advance. Please, register using the workshop registration form on the WEB. http://needmore.physics.indiana.edu/~sulanke/d0-workshop-registration.html The registration form lists the hotels in which we have reserved blocks of rooms, and the price range. There are additional hotel options if needed. The participants are RESPONSIBLE for their hotel arrangements, unless they choose to stay in the dorms. For those who choose the dorm option the organizers will make the reservation. We have reserved 50 dorms, however we can expand if needed. Dates: ====== The workshop will begin on Sunday morning, July 20, and finish midday on Friday, July 25. This allows people to fly in on Saturday, 19 July and out on Friday, 25 July and get the Saturday stay. Sessions: ======== The workshop sessions will be held in the Physics Department, Swain Hall West. The plenary sessions will be in the SW 119 which can accommodate 236 people (another meeting room for 284 people is kept in reserve). A registration / information area will be set up in SW113 and the access to photocopying, etc. in SW256. Computer terminals have been set up for the May bquark workshop in SW 102, SW135 and SW262B (over 25 terminals). We intend to expand this arrangement to 40 terminals using a cluster in the adjacent Swain Hall East. The videoconferencing is available from SW262, its installation in SW 119 is being worked out. Transportation: =============== Most people will probably fly into Indianapolis International Airport located 50 miles from Bloomington. To get to Bloomington from the airport you either have to rent a car or use a limo service (Classic Touch - 812-339-7269 , or Bloomington Shuttle Service - 812-332-6004 for reservations). Another option is to drive 265 miles from Fermilab (4-4.5 hours driving time). The dorms and some of the hotels are within walking distance from the Physics Department (see the registration form). There is no problem with parking next to the Physics Building and parking stickers will be distributed at the registration. Day Care: ========= We are checking with local providers to make arrangments for daycare for children during the workshop. It would be helpful if we knew as soon as possible how many people might be using this service. Cultural Activities:=================== Bloomington, appropriately named for the riot of color in spring and fall, is a university town of some 55,000 residents, nestled in the rolling hills of southern Indiana. It was established in 1818 and was selected as the site of Indiana University in 1820. Bloomington is not only a prime business and recreation center in the state of Indiana, but is also known as a cultural center with more than 1,000 concerts a year produced by its internationally known School of Music. There are several concerts foreseen during the workshop (a list is attached to this bulletin). The ticket prices are within $5-$20 range. Since events like performances of "Oklahoma" are very popular and the chamber music concert has a limited audience capacity, we would like to get an early estimate of the number of people interested, to make some advance reservation. In addition, historic villages, state and national forests and parks surround Bloomington and provide a wealth of opportunities for visitors. Just to name some of them: the Yellowwood , Mac Cormick and Brown State parks , recreational facilities at the Monroe Lake, Nashville - a small artists community in the Brown County, the residence of T.C.Steele, a reknown painter from the begining of the century, spectacular caves etc. All these attractions are located within 15 miles from Bloomington. Additional information will be provided at the workshop. Registration: ============ We expect that the registration fees will be similar to what they were in Boston ($90). This will include refreshments at the session breaks, a reception, and a banquet. Housing will be handled separately.
