An extravehicular mobility unit (EMU) suited astronaut, positioned in the manipulator foot restraint (MFR) on the remote manipulator system (RMS) arm and holding the capture bar, is maneuvered into retrieval position at INTELSAT VI's aft side. Below him a second EMU-suited astronaut watches the procedure. Once the capture bar with grapple fixture is attached to the INTELSAT satllite it will be lowered into OV-105's PLB. Vertical perigee stage and hardware seen resting in the PLB will be fastened to INTELSAT. With its new motor installed, INTELSAT will be released from OV-105's PLB and when a safe distance away will be boosted into a 45,000-transfer orbit. It will then be maneuvered into its proper position, 22,300 miles above the Earth. Photo credit: Hughes Aircraft Co. and NASA.
