Thursday - April 23, 2009 United States Attorney George E.B. Holding announced that in federal court today United States District Judge James C. Dever, III, sentenced MUHAMMAD ABDUL RAHMAN, 33, of Lumberton, North Carolina, to 216 months’ imprisonment followed by five years supervised release.
Wednesday - April 22, 2009 Everyone thought Mebane’s Avedis “Mike” Djeredjian was a legitimate businessman. But when a federal jury in April of last year convicted him of a conspiracy to launder money from trafficking in contraband cigarettes, subjecting him to the forfeiture of over $4.5 million in proceeds on top of a long prison term, a different story unfolded, one revealing a multi-million dollar smuggling enterprise and demonstrating the power of federal forfeiture laws to cripple illegal enterprises. The Djeredjian case was just one successful prosecution cited by speakers at the Asset Forfeiture and Financial Investigation Training Conference which kicked off here today.
Wednesday - April 22, 2009 United States Attorney George E.B. Holding announced that in federal court here on April 20, 2009, CHARLES MELVIN CAMPBELL, JR., was sentenced to 320 months by United States District Judge Terrence W. Boyle for conspiring to distribute and to possess with intent to distribute more than fifty (50) grams of cocaine base (crack) and for possessing a firearm in furtherance of this drug trafficking crime. CAMPBELL was the head of a drug organization operating in Red Springs, North Carolina. In total ten defendants have pleaded guilty to their involvement in this conspiracy as part of operation “Hot Soup.”
Wednesday - April 22, 2009 Today, United States District Court Judge James C. Dever, III, sentenced ZACH LEON SLAUGHTER, 56, of Stovall, North Carolina, to 188 months’ imprisonment and a $5,000 fine for receipt of graphic images child pornography over the Internet. SLAUGHTER, who had previously been convicted of committing a 2nd degree sexual offense against a child under the age of 13 in 1985, pled guilty to the new charge in January.
Wednesday - April 22, 2009 United States Attorney George E.B. Holding announced that in federal court on April 20, 2009, CARLOS EUGENE GREEN, 21, of New Bern, North Carolina, pleaded guilty before United States District Judge Terrence W. Boyle to conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute fifty (50) grams or more of cocaine base (crack), and five hundred (500) grams or more of cocaine powder between June 2006 and January 27, 2009. GREEN faces up to life imprisonment, a fine of up to $4,000,000.00, and at least five years supervised release.
Wednesday - April 22, 2009 United States Attorney George E.B. Holding announced that in federal court today United States District Judge James C. Dever, III, sentenced JOHN CHARLES MARDIS, 28, of Greenville, North Carolina, to 126 months’ imprisonment followed by five years supervised release. The Court also imposed restitution in the amount of $8,285.66.
Tuesday - April 21, 2009 United States Attorney George E.B. Holding announced that in federal court today United States District Judge Terrence W. Boyle, sentenced DAVID TERRELL PHILLIPS, 35, of Greenville, North Carolina, to 120 months’ imprisonment followed by five years supervised release.
Tuesday - April 21, 2009 United States Attorney George E.B. Holding announced that in federal court today United States District Judge James C. Dever, III, sentenced OMAR DEQUAN THOMAS, 21, of Pitt County, North Carolina, to 60 months’ imprisonment followed by five years supervised release. The Court also imposed restitution in the amount of $2,100.
Monday - April 20, 2009 United States District Judge Terrence W. Boyle today sentenced JOHN THOMAS DAVIS, 59, of Wake Forest, North Carolina, to seven consecutive 20-year prison terms for using a child to create a series of sadistic sex abuse images in 2000 and 2001, and for receiving third party images of child sex abuse between 2005 and 2007. This was the maximum punishment permitted by law. DAVIS was further ordered to pay restitution to the victim in the amount of $480,000. DAVIS pled guilty in February to a Criminal Information filed by the United States Attorney’s Office charging him with six counts of manufacturing child pornography and one count of receipt of child pornography.
Monday - April 20, 2009 The Office of the United States Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina announced that in federal court here today NECOLE JOHNSON, 30, of St. Louis, Missouri, pled guilty before United States District Judge James C. Dever, III, to aiding and abetting bank fraud, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Sections 1344 and 2, which has a maximum penalty of up to 30 years imprisonment followed by five years of supervised release and a fine of up to 1,000,000.
Monday - April 20, 2009 United States Attorney George E.B. Holding announced that in federal court today United States District Judge Terrence W. Boyle, sentenced WESLEY BERNARD GARNER, 41, of Raleigh, North Carolina, to 46 months’ imprisonment followed by three years supervised release.
Monday - April 20, 2009 United States Attorney George E.B. Holding announced that in federal court today MAURICE EUGENE JENKINS, 41, of Wilson, North Carolina, pled guilty before United States District Judge James C. Dever, III, to bank fraud, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 1344.
Monday - April 20, 2009 United States Attorney George E.B. Holding announced that in federal court today that two defendants involved in an attempted bank robbery pled guilty before United States District Judge Terrence W. Boyle. MATTHEW GLENN MANTZ, 22, of Orrum, North Carolina, and KARON RORIE, 25, also of Orrum, North Carolina, pled guilty to bank robbery, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 2113, and using and carrying a firearm during a federal crime of violence, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 924(c). Additionally, RORIE pled guilty to possession with intent to distribute more than 50 grams of crack cocaine, in violation of Title 21, United States Code, Section 841(a)(1).
Monday - April 20, 2009 United States Attorney George E.B. Holding announced that in federal court on April 13, 2009, MICHAEL EUGENE THRASH, JR., 21, of Roanoke Island, North Carolina, pleaded guilty before United States Magistrate Judge David W. Daniel to conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of cocaine base (crack), and 500 grams or more of cocaine powder between June 2008 and August 14, 2008.
Thursday - April 16, 2009 United States Attorney George E.B. Holding announced that in federal court yesterday Senior United States District Court Judge James C. Fox sentenced ERNESTO RAYO MORALES, 23, of Duplin County, North Carolina, to 151 months’ imprisonment followed by five years supervised release for conspiring to possess with the intent to distribute more than 500 grams of methamphetamine and 151 months’ imprisonment on each of the four counts for distribution of methamphetamine and possession with intent to distribute a quantity of methamphetamine to run concurrent with the conspiracy count.
Wednesday - April 15, 2009 UUnited States Attorney George E.B. Holding announced that in federal court today LAWRENCE WOODARD, 38, an inmate at Butner Federal Correctional Institute, was sentenced by Senior United States District Judge James C. Fox to 87 months’ imprisonment consecutive to the term of imprisonment he is currently serving for conspiring to smuggle a firearm into a federal prison, and obtaining contraband by a federal prisoner.

Fox, sentenced TIMOTHY HAYMAN, 46, of Bailey, North Carolina, to 236 months’ imprisonment followed by five years of supervised release.
Wednesday - April 15, 2009 United States Attorney George E.B. Holding announced that yesterday in federal court Senior United States District Judge James C. Fox sentenced GINGER VANESSA EDWARDS, 37, of Duplin County, North Carolina, to 115 months’ imprisonment followed by five years supervised release.
Tusday - April 14, 2009 United States Attorney George E.B. Holding announced today a fifteen-count Indictment charging six individuals in North Carolina and Virginia with what the Indictment alleges was “an extensive scheme” to “submit false and fraudulent U.S. Individual Income Tax Returns claiming substantial tax refunds to the Internal Revenue Service.
Tusday - April 14, 2009 United States Attorney George E.B. Holding announced that in federal court on April 10, 2009, Chief United States District Judge Louise W. Flanagan sentenced ANDRE HORACE JUMPP, 20, of Fayetteville, North Carolina to 40 months’ imprisonment followed by three years of supervised release for unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon.

Tusday - April 14, 2009 United States Attorney George E.B. Holding announced that in federal court on April 9, 2009, Chief United States District Judge Louise W. Flanagan, sentenced RUBEN BORJA, 26, of Warsaw, North Carolina, to 168 months’ imprisonment followed by five years supervised release.
Monday - April 13, 2009 United States Attorney George E.B. Holding announced that in federal court on April 10, 2009, Chief United States Judge Flanagan sentenced another defendant from the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) investigation entitled Hornet’s Nest. TYRICE NATHANIEL DOUGLAS, 25, of Sanford, North Carolina, received 164 months imprisonment followed by five years of supervised release.
Friday - April 10, 2009 United States Attorney George E.B. Holding announced that in federal court yesterday Chief United States District Judge Louise W. Flanagan, sentenced two defendants in a jewelry store and a Food Lion robbery. JERROD ANDREW ELLIOTT and WAYNE TYRONE EASON received 108 months’ imprisonment followed by five years of supervised release and 120 months’ imprisonment followed by five years of supervised released, respectively.
Thursday - April 9, 2009 United States Attorney George E.B. Holding announced that in federal court yesterday Chief United States District Judge Louise W. Flanagan, sentenced LUNA JUNIOR WILLIS, 42, of Clarkton, North Carolina, to 120 months’ imprisonment followed by three years supervised release.
Thursday - April 9, 2009 United States Attorney George E.B. Holding announced yesterday that MICHAEL GORDON MCINTOSH, 25, of Dunn, North Carolina, pled guilty to armed postal robbery, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 2214(a), which has a maximum penalty of up to 25 years imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, or both, and 5 years supervised release and discharge of a firearm during a crime of violence, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, 924(c), which has a maximum penalty of life imprisonment in addition to any prison term imposed under the charge of armed postal robbery, a $250,000 fine, or both, and up to five years of supervised release.
Wednesday - April 8, 2009 United States Attorney George E.B. Holding announced that in federal court here today United States District Judge James C. Dever, III, sentenced MARTIN BRYANT BOYETTE, 35, of Clinton, North Carolina.
Wednesday - April 8, 2009 Yesterday, United States District Court Judge James C. Dever, III, sentenced JONATHAN THOMAS SMITH, 23, of Cary, North Carolina, to 168 months’ imprisonment for receipt of child pornography over the Internet. The Court also sentenced SMITH to lifetime supervised release upon completion of his sentence.

Alligood, pled guilty before United States District Judge James C. Dever, III, for extortion under the color of money, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 1951.
Tuesday - April 7 2009 United States Attorney George E.B. Holding announced that in federal court here yesterday Senior United States District Judge W. Earl Britt sentenced NATHANIEL FRANK DAVIS, 45, of Wilmington, North Carolina, to 188 months imprisonment followed by three years of supervised release for bank robbery.

Holding announced that in federal court here today ERIC JEVONNE BENNETT, 30, of Hope Mills, North Carolina, pled guilty before Senior United States District Judge W. Earl Britt to unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, in violation of, Title 18 United States Code, Section 922(g)(1), and possession of a stolen firearm, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 922(j).

Earl Britt to unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 922(g)(1).
Thursday - April 2, 2009 United States Attorney George E.B. Holding announced that in federal court on March 31, 2009, Senior United States District Judge James C. Fox, sentenced HUMBERTO RODRIGUEZ-CRUZ, 33, of Duplin County, North Carolina, to 76 months imprisonment to be served consecutively to a state sentence that he is serving in North Carolina followed by five years supervised release.

Holding announced that on February 25, 2009, a Federal Grand Jury returned a single-count indictment charging KODY RAY BRITTINGHAM, 20, of Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, with threatening the President-Elect of the United States, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 871, which has a maximum penalty of 5 years imprisonment followed by up to three years of supervised release and a fine of up to $250,000.
