Bees, Wasps, & Ants (Order Hymenoptera)
The hymenoptera are the most beneficial group of insects. Bees pollenate flowers and provide honey which scientists are beginning to learn has certain health benefits. The venom of certain stinging hymenopterans is also being studied for health benefits. Many wasp larvae are parasites to insects that damage crops and forests. Ants, though at times destructive, provide a fascinating look into one of the few social animals on Earth other than man, and as a whole, the hymenoptera exhibit some of the most complex behavior.
