Andrea
(and those also curious)

This is an interesting discussion. I'd also recommend that you look at
these 2 books for some detailed classroom descriptions of
Freirean-based methods as used in various programs in the states...
Making Meaning, Making Change (Elsa Auerbach)

Civic Participation and Community Action Sourcebook
(http://tech.worlded.org/docs/vera/index1.htm)
and the Civic collection: http://www.nelrc.org/cpcc/index.htm

I also like the student-created curriculum
Samaritan House PAR Group, The (1995). Where there is life, there is
hope: Women literacy students and discrimination. Department of
Education and Training, Province of Manitoba: Literacy and Continuing
Education Branch, [On-line], http://www.nald.ca/CLR/lifehope/cover.htm
Available online in pdf format, this workbook written by women literacy
students describes how they used participatory action research to
discuss discrimination and to write this book.

for something a bit more "academic," check out: Campbell, P. & Burnaby,
B., (eds.). (2001). Participatory practices in adult education. Mahwah,
NJ: Lawrence Erlbaum Associates.
This book offers detailed examples of successful participatory
practices in adult education spanning a wide range of program settings.

Also the WE LEARN annal conference (as well as our organization)
examples participatory practices in action. Personally, I'd say we come
at this from a holistic feminist/womanist framework --- but I'd also
claim "Freirean-inspired" popular and participatory educational
practices as critical to our work.
