May 28, 2004 Michael Braukus Headquarters, Washington (Phone: 202/358-1979) RELEASE: 04-174 NASA SELECTS DEPUTY FOR SECURITY OFFICE Clint Herbert was named as NASA's Deputy Assistant Administrator (DAA) of the Office of Security and Safeguards in Washington. "Clint's NASA experience and counterintelligence skills will be invaluable as we continue improving security agency wide," said David Saleeba, Assistant Administrator for the Security and Safeguards Office. "As the war on terror continues, it's critical to provide our employees with as secure a working environment as possible," he added. As the DAA, Herbert assists the Assistant Administrator with the protection of NASA employees, missions, and property worldwide. He also serves as the Assistant Administrator's advisor on security and counterintelligence. Prior to this appointment, Herbert was the special projects manager in the Office of Security responsible for developing and implementing several agency security programs including Homeland Security initiatives. He is the former head of protective services at NASA's Ames Research Center (ARC), Moffett Field, Calif. At ARC he managed a professional staff of 200 personnel. His organization was responsible for providing a wide-range of installation protective services, such as law enforcement; criminal investigations; technical, physical, information, and personnel security; counter-intelligence; fire/crash rescue; emergency preparedness, response, and recovery. ARC is NASA's third largest installation with 350 research, support and administrative facilities. Herbert also served as the director of security operations at the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, and the Naval Air Warfare Center, Warminster, Pa.
