Kara Sea (70E-95E):

Kara South: Majority of the central south Kara Sea was analyzed using RADARSAT imagery 
from 04 August.  The Baydaratskaya Guba used MODIS/Terra 04 August 2003 for analysis.  
Some remaining areas were analyzed using DMDP/OLS visible imagery from 
03-04 August.  Remainder of analysis estimated using Quickscat/SSMI from 03 AUG, 
meteorology, climatology and persistence. 
Summary : 50% RadarSat, 10% MODIS, 20% DMSP/OLS, 20% Estimated

Kara North: Areas adjacent to 75N and west of 75E were analyzed using RADARSAT imagery from 
04 AUG.  Areas north of 78N were analyzed using DMDP/OLS visible imagery from 02-03 AUG 2003 and 
AVHRR imagery from 02 AUG 2003.  Remainder of analysis estimated using Quickscat/SSMI from 
03 AUG, meteorology, climatology and persistence. 
Summary : 10% RadarSat, 30% DMSP/OLS, 60% Estimated

Barents Sea (0-70E):

Barents North:  Areas around Frans Josef Land were analysed with RadarSat imagery from 01 and 04 
August 2003.  RadarSat from 03 August was also applied for analysis of south of 80N, between 
35E and 47E.  These areas were also aided by AVHRR imagery from 04 August.  
Much of the remaining area was an analyzed using OLS images from 02-04 August 2003.
Few areas of the ice edge were estimated using SSM/I and QuikScat from 03 August 2003. 
Summary: 50% Radarsat, 35% OLS, 5% AVHRR, 10% Estimated.

Barents South: Areas south of Ostrov Vaygach were analyed using Radarsat from 04 August and
MODIS/Terra imagery from 04 August 2003. 
Summary: 50% Radarsat, 50% MODIS

Baltic Sea: Sea Ice Free


White Sea: Sea Ice Free


Canadian Archipelago (80W-95W): Portions of area analyzed using RADARSAT from 04 August and DMSP/OLS
from 02-04 August. Remainder of area estimated using a combination of climatology, meteorology, 
and persistence. 
SUMMARY: 30% RADARSAT, 40% DMSP OLS, 30% estimated. 


Baffin Bay/Davis Strait: North open water area and Nares Strait analyzed DMSP OLS
imagery from 315.2314 and 316.2247. Davis Strait analyzed using DMSP OLS imagery from
214.2211. Remainder of anal estimated using climatology, meteorology, and persistence.
Summary: 85% DMSP OLS, 15% Estimated


Labrador Sea: Sea Ice Free


Gulf of St. Lawrence: Sea Ice Free


Grand Banks of Newfoundland: Sea Ice Free 


Hudson Bay: Hudson/James Bay analyzed using DMSP/OLS image 10.03213.1518 and AVHRR
mage 10.03214.1710. Remainder of area estimated using a combination of climatology,
meteorology, and persistence.
SUMMARY: DMSP/OLS: 55%, AVHRR: 40% ESTIMATED: 5%

Foxe Basin: Foxe Basin analyzed using DMSP/OLS images 06.03212.0001 and 06.03212.2204.
Remainder of area estimated using a combination of climatology, meteorology, and
persistence.
SUMMARY: DMSP/OLS: 95%, ESTIMATED: 5%
 

Greenland South/Southwest: Entire area analyzed using DMSP OLS imagery from 315.2314.
Greenland Southwest is Sea Ice Free.
Summary: 100% DMSP OLS


Greenland Central: Entire area analyzed using DMSP OLS imagery from 315.2314, 316.2234.
Summary: 100% DMSP OLS


Greenland North: Area south of 81N analyzed using DMSP OLS imagery from 315.2314,
316.2234. Remainder of area estimated using meteorology, and persistence.
Summary: 90% DMSP OLS, 10% Estimated
