Metadata Antarctic Regional Seas Week of 09-13 February 2004 **Note that the WMO egg code used in the Antarctic analysis has been restricted. No partials will be used and the stage of development will be limited to ice of land origin, old ice (7.), First year ice (6), Young ice (3), and New ice (1). Amery Sea (30E-90E): Amery East: Portions of the Amery East were analyzed used AVHRR image 04037.2045. The majority of the area was extimated using a combination of SSM/I and QuikScat, from 08-09 February, as well as current weather, climatology, and continuity. Summary: AVHRR: 10% ESTIMATED: 90% Amery West: Portions of the Amery West were analyzed using AVHRR images 04037.2054 and 04037.0634. The remainder of the area was estimated using a combination of SSM/I and QuikScat, from 08-09 February, as current weather, climatology, and continuity. Summary: AVHRR: 50% ESTIMATED: 50% Wilkesland (90E-150E): Most of the analysis used DMSP/OLS from 07-08 FEB 2004 and AVHRR from 06 and 08 FEB 2004. MODIS imagery from 09 FEB 2004 aided concentration identification. Most areas between 95E-115E and some ice edge areas applied SSM/I (Bootstrap method) and QuikSCAT from 09 FEB 2004 along with climatology, meteorology, and persistence. Summary: DMSP/OLS 30%, AVHRR 30%, MODIS/Terra 5%, estimated 35%. Ross Sea (150E-150W): Small area just north of McMurdo Sound analyzed using RadarSat imagery from 08 Feb 2004. Much of inner pack, fast ice, shelf ice and portions of ice edge analyzed using visible DMSP/OLS imagery from 07-10 Feb 2004. Remainder estimated using a combination of QuikSCAT from 09 Feb 2004, meteorology and climatology. Summary: 10% RadarSat, 65% OLS, 25% estimated Amundsen Sea (150W-90W): Area between 151W and 107W, south of 70S analyzed using OLS image 04039.1613Z. From 103W to 107W, south of 73N, analyzed using OLS image 038.1454Z. South of 70S, from 116W to 137W, analyzed using OLS image 04038.1624Z. Between 150W and 143W, south of 71S, analyzed from OLS mage 04039.1613Z. Remainder estimated using SSM/I and QuikScat from 8 Feb 2004, current weather and climatology. Summary: OLS: 80% ESTIMATED: 20% Bellinghausen (90W-30W): Eastern portion of Bell East analyzed using DMSP OLS imagery from 036.1012. Central portion of Bell West analyzed using DMSP OLS imagery from 037.1114. Remainder of anal estimated using Quickscat/SSMI from 08 Feb, meterology, climatology and persistence. Summary: 45% DMSP OLS, 55% Estimated Weddell Sea (30W-30E): The Eastern Weddell was analyzed using DMSP/OLS 04036.0649, 04037.0634,and 04038.0800. Portions of the Western Weddell was analyzed using AVHRR image 0436.1935 and DMSP/OLS images 04036.1012, 04036.1755, and 04040.0730. Remainder estimated using SSM/I and QuikScat from 08 FEB 2004, current weather and climatology. Summary: DMSP: 60% AVHRR:15% ESTIMATED: 25%
