Near-Field Radar Cross-Section (108)
Problem: Determine if near-field, holographic radar data can be used to determine far-field radar-cross section (RCS) values
Project Activity Scope (from Technical Overview Chart): Measurement & Analysis Method Development through Measurement & Analysis System Applications
PNNL Solution:
- Recorded near-field data using Pacific Northwest National Laboratory holographic scanners
- Developed algorithms to calculate RCS by propagating near-field radar amplitude/phase data to far-field
- Provided effective, near-real-time RCS calculations using lab computer
- Successfully demonstrated method for helicopter and ground vehicles
Capabilities Employed to Meet Client Needs: Large-scale scanner system for acquisition of holographic radar data; indoor, full-scale vehicle measurements using EDL radar facility; HP 8510 microwave measurement equipment; development of Advanced Holographic Imaging Software (AHIS); electromagnetic wave modeling; microwave electronics development; embedded computer system development; mechanical scanning system development; computer software for system control and data acquisition.
