Foster holly is a hybrid between two native American hollies - the American holly, Ilex opaca, and the dahoon holly, Ilex cassine. Foster holly (sometimes designated Ilex x attenuate 'Fosteri') has a finer texture than common American holly and it fruits prolifically. It is one of the most popular landscape hollies and can be grown in USDA hardiness 6 through 9. You can find Foster holly in the Friendship Garden and the Holly and Magnolia Collection. |
