Red Crossbill (Loxia curvirostra)

Black-Capped Chickadee - Parus atricapillus

Black-Capped Chickadee This curious and active bird is common to Wind Cave National Park. Its raspy chick-a-dee-dee-dee call, and its whistled fee-bee song can be heard in forested areas throughout the park. The chickadee feeds on insects in warmer months, and on seeds and berries in the colder months. These birds can be seen year-round in the park, very often near the visitor center.
