Notes from Daily Status Meeting of 7 Feb 96 Prepared by UVCS General: Welcome to distinguished visitors: Roger Bonnet, et al. FOT Report: At 15:20 yesterday lost telemetry for a few minutes, but no data lost since spacecraft recorder was operating. At 9:29 this morning UARS' ongoing emergency took our DSN coverage. At station change-over this morning Madrid had some trouble pointing its antenna, but again no data was lost because spacecraft recorder was operating. Instrument Reports: GOLF: Nominal. Communications testing completed: can now command from MEDOC. Optical filter tuned and commissioned. Status is now optimal for next days' spacecraft testing. 13 days of data were presented: noise is lower than expected by a factor of 10. VIRGO: LOI cover still a problem (i.e., closed): too little friction -- door rebounds back shut. COBS software may be changed (only a change in command priority) in order to get more control over timing of door-opening current pulse. On Sunday spacecraft front-end will be cooler: maybe friction will be greater. MDI: Nominal. Instrument in excellent shape. Some programs have been uploaded. Flatfields were measured. A rehearsal of jitter test program will be done today. SUMER: Nominal. Focus tests of mirror and grating have been carried out. Wavelength calibration and detector geometrical distortion tests to be done today. CDS: Completed commisioning block 3.1. Detector noise evaluation has been carried out. EIT: Nominal. Synoptic observations are continuing as well as over-night automatic operation. UVCS: Nominal. North coronal hole observations to observe polar plumes have been completed and images produced. Pointing calibration has been done: instrument has been rolled 270 degrees from W. limb to S. limb with accurate pointing maintained. A "trim" of the pointing will be done today. LASCO: Work with the C1 Fabry-Perot is continuing. Preparations for program uploads are underway. SWAN: Nominal. It is busy looking at comets (a picture was presented). CELIAS: Nominal. CTOF is better than ULYSSES. COSTEP: Nominal. ERNE: No report. Today's Activities: UARS, due to continuing emergency, got our morning DSN, but this had only a minor influence on activities. VIRGO completed its degradation test slightly behind schedule due to UARS interruption. NRT today to run ~10:30 - ~17:30 EST. Tomorrow's Activities: See published schedule. Special Announcements: Bill Wagner (NASA Headquarters) mentioned that people will be here tomorrow for photoshoot related to "A Day in the Life" of the internet. Roger Bonnet (ESA) gives congratulations to all for the excellent operation of the instruments and spacecraft. He urges us all to talk widely about this remarkable achievement and the scientific knowledge is will bring.
