FDA Commissioner Dockets Management Branch (HFA 305) Food and Drug Administration 5630 Fisher's Lane, rm. 1061 Rockville, MD 20852 RE: Docket No. 00N-1396, and 00D-1598 Dear FDA, hello. i am a college student and have had the luxury of being surrounded in an information rich environment for quite some time, allowing me to keep up to date on many of the issues surrounding GE foods. i will say that i am strongly AGAINST any voluntary food labeling. i don't understand the purpose of making a process "voluntary" under law. who would abide or choose to label their foods as "irradiated" when that would administer a blatant deterrent to that food item and a lowering in profits for the company producing that particular food item. it just doesn't make sense to me that we as consumers would not have the liberty to choose what foods to eat and what companies to support. afterall, we truly do not know the impacts of GE foods and thus far many studies have shown the danger that they pose on the environment and on people's health, even though this has not been directly attributed to cancer or immune deficient patients. i can only hope that you truly care about our scarce resources (which may cause you to think that GE is the way to go) but we must be able to see ahead. plenty of food now will not gaurantee viable soil for the future. i hope that i will be able to trust food labels and have the liberty of choosing irradiated vs. non-irradiated foods. in sincere concern, regan nally regan nally olympia, wa, 98502 CC: The President Vice President Dick Cheney FDA Dockets Management [Docket No. 00N-1396] Senator Patty Murray Senator Maria Cantwell Representative Brian BairdFDA Dockets Management [Docket No. 00D-1598] To the recipient -- this fax/email message has come to you via the Center for Food Safety web site -- a public tool for providing input on food safety issues.
