On June 6, 2006, Ambassador Scott H. DeLisi and the Humanitarian Coordinator of the United Nations, Mr. Macleod Nyirongo, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in support of the joint program between the Ministry of National Development and UNDP for the utilization of fifty-eight (58) million Nafka (US$3.9 million). The funds will help displaced families return to their home communities from the camps in Gash Barka, to re-establish themselves and to recover their agricultural livelihood. As a result of the US-UNDP partnership, a total of 10,293 families (5,579 in Zoba Gash Barka and 4,713 in Zoba Debub) will receive help in preparing their land for the next cultivation season. In addition, they will receive seeds and tools and other farm inputs and will get free tractor services for plowing and planting.
