Windows XP instructions for joining EUD wireless network
Please note that one must be running Windows 2000, XP Home, or XP Pro or higher in
order to use our 802.1X wireless networking authentication.
Setup
Please complete this step while you have network access (you will
need to download something).
Importing Certificates
This will show you how to import certificates into your Microsoft Management Console
(mmc) application.
We need to import two certificates: one which was created for you
and one for the EUD Certification Authority (CA).
(Your certificate was
issued by and "trusts" the EUD CA. You need to explicitly trust the
EUD CA by adding it to your mmc setup.)
- Please download the EUD root CA certificate from
this web page (right-click). The filename is "root.der".
- Please download
HOWTO:
EAP/TLS Setup for FreeRADIUS and Windows XP Supplicant [pdf, 796k],
from www.freeradius.org.
Please note that if you elect to print out this document (rather
than viewing it on-screen) you do not need to print page 19 and
beyond.
- Please follow the directions from page 6 to page 18.
This document shows large screenshots (about one per page) to
carefully walk you through the process. (It's not hard, it's just
that there are a few steps.)
Start with section 4.3 on page 6. Pages 6-14 describe importing
the root certificate. Pages 14 to 18 describe importing the client
certificate. (This is where you will need the
cert-<your_name>.p12 file that was mailed to you.)
This step sets up your Wireless Network Connections Control Panel.
Once you have the setup done, here is how you use the network!
