Mo. Rev. Stat. § 191.331[ CLOSE ]

This provision requires testing of all newborns for phenylketonuria (PKU) and other metabolic or genetic diseases prescribed by the Department of Health and Senior Services. It requires physicians, certified nurse midwives, public health nurses, and administrators of hospitals or ambulatory surgical centers to report diagnosed cases of these diseases. It requires that parents be informed of the nature of the testing and the consequences of treatment or nontreatment, and allows parents who object to the test in writing on religious grounds to refuse the test for their child. Testing fees and state aid for costs of treatment are addressed. Last updated: 17-Nov-04
