Washington, D.C.- Congressman Dale E. Kildee (D-MI) announced today that Carman School District would receive a $980,982 grant to fund the Carman-Ainsworth Early Head Start Program. The Office for Children and Families, a division of the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, awarded the grant to the Carman School District to provide assistance to low-income children and their families.
“This grant provides the Carman-Ainsworth Community Early Head Start Program with the funds necessary to expand its efforts to foster healthy growth and development of young children,” said Kildee. “This program will give more children the chance they need to learn and grow in a healthy environment.”
The Carman-Ainsworth Early Head Start Program will use these federal funds to build an Early Head Start classroom wing at the Fenton Lawn Center. Carman-Ainsworth Community Schools has already committed close to $4 million in local bond monies to renovate this facility for the purposes of expanding preschool based services and family support. The renovation project will enable the Carman-Ainsworth Early Head Start Program to continue to provide invaluable services to teen parents and low-income families by providing their children with a health environment conducive to learning. The Early Head Start Program was specifically designed to serve eligible children and families during pre-natal stages through age three. |
