Comprehensive and farmer-led, Farm Beginnings® beginning farmer training is a grassroots response to supporting the next generation of farmers.  Established farmers are mentors and presenters and guide the beginning farmers through a 10-month course working through values and goals, building a business plan including a cash flow, enterprise budgets and marketing plans.  There is a strong on-farm education component that includes farm tours, skills sessions and working one on one with farmers on the farm.  Once a person has completed Farm Beginnings, they are eligible to apply for a no interest livestock loan through a revolving animal loan program. LSP's Farm Beginnings is reaching out to women, low income and immigrant and minority farmers and prospective farmers.
