OCE Release #2-2002 Raymond L. Bridge, 202-720-5447 rbridge@oce.usda.gov ADVISORY: CHANGES IN THE MAY 10 SUPPLY AND DEMAND ESTIMATES REPORT Washington, May 6--The May 10 World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates (WASDE) report will provide USDA's first assessment of supply, demand, and prices for the new marketing year. The WASDE report is issued by the World Agricultural Outlook Board of USDA's Office of the Chief Economist. The report will present projections for 2002/03 for grains, oilseeds, cotton, sugar and milk, as well as calendar-year 2003 projections for U.S. meat and poultry products. Several changes will be introduced with the May 10 report. For grains only, import and export forecasts for the European Union (EU- 15) will be revised to exclude trade between EU member nations. Historical revisions of supply and use estimates for the EU-15 and the world reflecting this change will be available May 10 on the WASDE home page, http://www.usda.gov/oce/waob/wasde/wasde.htm. Exports of U.S. broiler meat will be revised to exclude exports of chicken feet (paws), which are not reported in federally inspected broiler production. This change will reduce U.S. broiler meat exports in the supply and demand balance sheet and increase domestic broiler meat use. Historical revisions to broiler supply and demand will be posted on the WASDE home page and in the May 15 Dairy, Poultry and Livestock Outlook report published by the Economic Research Service. The order of tables and table formats in the May 10 WASDE will be similar to those in May 2001 issue, except for sugar. "Other" imports in the sugar table will be replaced by "other program" imports and "non-program" imports. A sample sugar table and sample world grain tables with new country listings are attached. The WASDE report is available electronically in Adobe Acrobat format as well as in ASCII text.
