Title:
From keV-to-TeV and from kFLOPS-to-TFLOPS: a Historical Review of the Development of Accelerator Technology and Computer Technology, and the Challenges Ahead
Abstract:
In this talk I will describe, in parallel, the development of accelerator technology from the time of Lawrence's first cyclotron to the present, along with the development of computer technology from the ENIAC to the present. I will also describe how high performance computing is being used design the next generation of particle accelerators. Lastly, I will present some speculations (by myself and others) on future advances in both of these fields.
