STANDING INDIAN CAMPGROUND (NC), NFs IN NORTH CAROLINA - FS, NC

Description:

The closest town is Franklin, NC. There are many hiking trails in the standing Indian Basin. The campground is located on the headwaters of the Nantahala River. The elevation is 3,880'. there are warm showers in Loops 4 and 5. There is potable water in each loop at common faucets. Standing Indian Basin is a popular fishing area that requires an in-state or out-of-state North Carolina fishing license.

  • LOOP 1 may be reserved from March 30 - November 5
  • LOOP 2 may be reserved from March 30 - November 5
  • LOOP 3 may be reserved from March 30 - November 5
  • LOOP 4 may be reserved from March 30 - November 5
  • LOOP 5 may be reserved from May 25-November 5
  • There are no electric, water, or sewer hook-ups at this campground. There is a dump station. Reservations are taken from June 1 through November 24. Sites may be available on a first-come - first served basis outside the reservation season. This campground has first-come, first served sites.

Take US 64 west from Franklin approximately 12 miles passing thru Winding Stair Gap. Near the bottom of the mountain from the gap, you will turn left on West Old Murphy Road (SR 1448). There is a directional sign for the campground there. Go 1.9 miles and turn right on Forest Development Road 67 at the Standing Indian Campgound sign. This is a paved road. Go 1.7 miles and turn right into Standing Indian Campgound.
