GOSPEL EXTRAVAGANZA

AT BROOKHAVEN LAB, APRIL 4

Upton, NY - A Gospel Extravaganza will be held at Brookhaven National Laboratory's Berkner Hall on Saturday, April 4, at 7 p.m. Sponsored by the Laboratory's Afro-American Culture Club, the concert is open to the public, and tickets will only be sold in advance. For information, call Brookhaven's Public Affairs Office at (516)344-2345.

The featured group will be the ARC Gospel Choir of New York City, which started in 1975, when eight residents of the Addicts Rehabilitation Center began singing to the congregation at the Manhattan Christian Reform Church in Harlem. The a cappella choral group has since grown to the renowned 35-member choir. Also on the program will be the Young Adult Choir, Somerset, New Jersey; the Stephens Singers, Jersey City, New Jersey; the First Baptist Church Choir, Riverhead; and the BNL Gospel Choir, made up of employees of Brookhaven Lab.

In addition, an exhibition of Afro-American art, crafts and photography will be on display in Berkner Hall. Tickets are $10 for adults and $6 for children under 12. There will be no reserved seats, and no tickets will be sold at the door. Order tickets early to be assured of seats, since the show usually sells out well before the event.

The Laboratory is located on William Floyd Parkway (County Road 46), one-and-a-half miles north of Exit 68 on the Long Island Expressway.
