Sharing a World of Resources

Exhibit Extravaganza
This article is from the September 14, InTouch, the internal NPS interpretation bulletin board.

Greetings from Goddard Space Flight Center!

Have you started to think about those non-personal services you will need this winter when your staff begins to decrease? Or are you in a winter season park thinking about non-personal services to deflect visitors away from the desk? NASA may have just the resources to help you establish an exhibit extravaganza. Imatgine a different exhibit every month or two that you didn't have to create from scratch!

NASA centers loan out travelling exhibits that focus on space science, earth science and technology. There are many exhibits to choose from based on those 3 topics. The exhibits come in different shapes and sizes. Some are panels, some pop-ups. You can also borrow models of planets, satellites, aircraft, and spacecraft. A few centers will even loan out lunar samples. There is an application process. The only fees charged are for shipping the exhibit and models to and from your site. The applications and fees are specific to each center.

When considering a NASA exhibit, it is going to be beneficial to contact the center nearest to your site. Discuss themes appropriate to your park with the exhibit coordinator. The coordinator will make recommendations to help you decide on the best exhibit or models. Many exhibits are found at all centers and this will save you shipping costs. Some centers do have exhibits that are only available through them, but they will ship anywhere in the U.S. including Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, Guam, etc.

Listed below are the cneters, phone numbers, and World Wide Web sites. Most centers are just getting their exhibits on-line; however, all coordinators are available by phone. When calling, keep in mind most of these folks work Monday-Friday.
