Remembering our nation's veterans

The Laboratory's annual Memorial Day no-host breakfast sponsored by the veterans commitee is this morning in the Otowi Building cafeteria side rooms A, B, and C.

The Office of Equal Opportunity and Diversity (HR-OEOD) co-sponsors the breakfast and talk, which begins at 7 a.m. and is open to the Laboratory workforce. Free coffee will be provided to attendees.

The Laboratory is closed on Monday, May 26, in observance of Memorial Day.

About 1,000 Lab employees and subcontract personnel are veterans.

A barbershop quartet will serenade attendees with patriotic songs before keynote speaker Ralph Swingle talks, beginning about 7:25 a.m. Swingle is a World War II veteran who served on a naval destroyer. He also served in the Korean War.

Swingle will describe his adventures on a Navy ship, kamikaze attacks, and his thoughts about serving as a mobile target for North Korean artillery.

For more information, contact Danny Valdez of HR-OEOD at 7215 or dlvaldez@lanl.gov, or David Swingle of Performance Feedback (CAO-PF), chair of the veterans committee, at 5-9305 or dswingle@lanl.gov by electronic mail.
