NAMING CONVENTIONS AND PROTOCOLS USED IN THE FILE "CDMS Equipment Inventory.XLS" -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) Each module is to be engraved with its unique FNAL serial number at two locations: A) 1) For 3U and 9U sizes, on the 96 pin VME connector, as viewed from the front panel. EXCEPTION: 9U extender boards are to be engraved as below. 2) For 6U sizes, on the 48 pin connector, again as viewed from the front panel. B) On the bottom front-panel extractor handle, in plain view. NOTE: See Merle Haldeman or Bruce Merkel for access to the engraver at Fermilab. 2) For other pieces of equipment such as Power Supplies, BOBs, and Crates, the FNAL serial number is to be either engraved or stamped in a visible location on the front panel. 3) In the "location" column, a "(?)" before the location description indicates that that piece of equipment may not yet be engraved, and a "?" indicates that piece of equipment's location is unknown. 4) Conventionally for the Stanford 3U modules the first complete board of each type was called the "Prototype". For the Berkeley modules however, the first working board is called "Version 1". 5) Reasearch Location Abbreviations: CWRU = "Case Western Reserve University" FNAL = "Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory" SFSU = "San Francisco State University" UCB = "University of California - Berkeley" Equipment Abbreviations: AUX = "AUXillary" BL = "BLip" BOB = "Break Out Box" DR = "DRiver" FB = "Faux Backplane" FSR = "Full SubRack controller" FT = "Fet Temp" ISR = "Interim SubRack controller" MC = "Monitor Card" PD = "Passive Driver" PS = "Power Supply" QA = "Q Amp (A250)" QAD = "Q Amp Discrete" QB = "Q Bias" QT = "QET (Quasiparticle trapping assisted Electrothermal feedback Transistion edge sensor)" RTF = "Receive Trigger Filter" SB = "Squid Board (SQUID = Superconducting QUantum Interface Device) XB6 = "X-tender Board 6U" XB9 = "X-tender Board 9U" WFB = "Warm Fet Box" ZRTF = "Zip Receive Trigger Filter" 3U = "3U VME crate" 9U = "9U VME crate"
