Rawlins BLM Extends Scoping Comment Period for
Chokecherry and Sierra Madre Wind Energy Project EIS

The Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) Rawlins Field Office announced today that the scoping period for the Chokecherry and Sierra Madre Wind Energy Project environmental impact statement (EIS), in Carbon County, Wyo., has been extended for an additional 15 days.

The Notice of Intent (NOI) to prepare an EIS, amend the Rawlins Resource Management Plan, and conduct scoping for the Chokecherry and Sierra Madre Wind Energy Project in Carbon County, Wyoming was published in the Federal Register, Fri., July 25, 2008. The publication of the NOI triggers a 45-day scoping period.

“This extension will provide for a scoping period totaling 60-days after publication of the NOI,” said Jerry Crockford, BLM project manager. Crockford said more than 80 people attended the four initial scoping meetings held in Saratoga, Rawlins and Baggs, Wyo.

An interested agency meeting with local, state and federal agency attendees will be held at the BLM Rawlins Field Office on Monday, Sept. 15, 2008, according to Crockford.

Crockford said some comments on the wind energy development proposal had started to arrive at the Rawlins Field Office. Public comments from the general public and interested parties can be submitted via mail or overnight delivery to the BLM Rawlins Field Manager, 1300 N. Third Street, Rawlins, WY 82301. Before including your address, phone number, electronic mail address, or other personal identifying information in your comment, Crockford stated, you should be aware that your entire comment – including your personal identifying information – may be made publicly available at any time.

“While you can ask us in your comment to withhold your personal identifying information from public review, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to do so” he explained.
