SKYWARN Recognition Day 2001

On Saturday, December 1st, the National Weather Service across the entire country held the Second Annual Skywarn Recognition Day.  Amateur radio operators were invited into NWS offices, including Sioux Falls, to try to make as many contacts as possible.  This special event raises the awareness of the service that amateur radio operators provide to the National Weather Service during periods of adverse weather.  Many amateur radio operators volunteer their time to serve as spotters for the National Weather Service.  Their information enhances the service that the NWS provides the public during severe thunderstorm and/or tornadic events.  If you would like to learn more about amateur radio, please contact Todd Heitkamp.  For more information about this Special Event across the nation, visit http://hamradio.noaa.gov.

Below are photos of the three volunteers at NWS Sioux Falls that helped make this event a success. A big thank you goes out to each of them! (Click the image to enlarge the photo.)

Paul (KC0FOQ) helped Kevin with the HF radio, and also helped change the jumper on the HF Outbacker antenna. Thank goodness for nice weather, right Paul?
