P.Pandurang Nayak
Dr. Nayak is currently a research scientist with Recom Technologies in
the Artificial Intelligence
Research Branch at NASA Ames Research
Center. Dr. Nayak is working in the area of reasoning
about physical systems, with a special emphasis on modeling and diagnosis. He
received a B.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering from the Indian
Institute of Technology, Bombay (1985), and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from
Stanford
University (1992).
Dr. Nayak's thesis research was in the area of
reasoning about physical systems, with a special emphasis on developing
efficient techniques for selecting adequate models. Other research areas
included causal reasoning, qualitative reasoning, and order of magnitude
reasoning. He also developed and implemented the Representation and Modeling
Language, RML, which is used extensively in the SIGMA project. His current
research interests include automated modeling of physical systems, model-based
diagnosis, and reasoning with multiple abstractions, approximations, and
contexts. Dr. Nayak is the author of number articles in the area of qualitative
reasoning about physical systems.
