Mary and John Cloud

May 12, 2006.

John Cloud, who for the last three years has served as Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy Berlin, will leave Germany Sunday, May 14, 2006. On Tuesday, May 10, Ambassador William R. Timken, Jr. held a farewell reception in his honor at the Ambassador's residence in Berlin. Both John Cloud and his wife, Mary, were on hand to welcome guests from Berlin's political, economic, cultural and media communities, as well as many of their personal friends they have made over the past three years. After departing Berlin, Mr. Cloud, who has been nominated to be the next U.S. Ambassador to Lithuania, will return to Washington for his Senate hearing, scheduled for May 17.

During his time in Berlin, Mr. Cloud spent six months as Charge d'Affairs between the departure of former Ambassador Daniel Coats and the arrival of Ambassador Timken. John Cloud's successor will be John Koenig, currently Deputy Chief of Mission of the U.S. Mission to NATO in Brussels. Mr. Koenig will arrive late summer.
