Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Park
Fire Narratives and Year to Date Totals

Wildland Fire Narrative:

The Tehipite fire is approximately 11,596 acres (4,140 of those acres are in Kings Canyon National Park, the remainder are on Sierra Ntl. Forest).  Due to recent winter weather, the fire is currently unstaffed.  Should weather conditions improve and the fire still warrant attention, we will resume monitoring this backcountry fire.

Lightning started the Hidden fire on 9/10/08.  It is currently 3,685 acres and 100% contained.

Prescribed Fire Narrative:

On Oct. 17th, we ignited the Cedar Bluffs unit.  By the end of shift on the 19th, 1006 acres had been ignited.  As of Oct. 27th everything is holding well and there are no control problems.  The burn-down phase will naturally last a few weeks past ignitions.

On Oct. 29th, fire resources ignited the Wuksachi unit. Thus far, 60 of the 99 acres have been ignited.  Inclement weather has slowed down our ability to finish lighting the unit; however, if conditions do improve, we will likely try to burn the remainder of the unit as soon as it is feasible.
