Kenneth Feinburg's comments on Meet the Press, Sunday March 10

The horrendous, tragic events of Sept. 11 joined your country in grief, and as a Canadian, it joined mine as well, as we shared the pain of your tremendous loss, and your anger at the unfairness and injustice of it all. Yet, after learning of Kenneth Feinburg's comments regarding the exclusion of gays and lesbians from the victims compensation fund, it appears you are willing to perpetrate the same injustice and unfairness on your own people.

What a shame you did not use this occasion to include all members of society, as you have done by declaring illegal aliens eligible without being penalized for breaking the law. Instead you elected to reinforce the impression of people outside your country that your government is far to the right, and cares only about the rich, the gun possessors, and white, heterosexual men.

Sept. 11 united your country and made your citizens proud to be Americans. After hearing of Mr. Feinburg's comments regarding gays and lesbians, and his inference that their sexuality makes them both disposable and expendable, I have never been prouder to be Canadian.

Sincerely
