Lake Eyre, South Australia, with ~3000 km2 of ephemeral lake surface; Lake Eyre responds to El Niņo events by drying up. In the September, 2000 view the lake is about half full; it was notably fuller in July, 1997 but entirely dry in April, 1998. Lake Eyre time series (STS094-748-083 of July 1997, STS089-717-055 of January 1998, and NASA7-714-014 of April 1998).
